In Detail

Why Nextcloud on Your Own Server?

Your files live on your server in Frankfurt instead of with a big cloud provider. Nextcloud itself has no per-user licence fee – you pay for the server and create as many accounts as its resources allow.

The panel installs Nextcloud together with a MariaDB database and Redis as cache. Beforehand you choose the admin user, the language and optionally a domain; with a domain the install sets up a Let’s Encrypt certificate so the Nextcloud desktop and mobile apps connect encrypted right away. The panel generates the admin password – there is no open setup wizard for someone else to find first. After that you use Nextcloud as usual: sync files, calendars and contacts via CalDAV/CardDAV, share links and apps from the Nextcloud app store. Because files need room, we recommend a package with more storage than the technical minimum.

Answers to the most important questions

How much storage do I need for Nextcloud?
The install needs at least 20 GB, plus your files. To start we recommend 50 GB; for larger amounts of data pick a package with more NVMe storage.
Do the Nextcloud apps for Windows, macOS, Android and iOS work?
Yes. Ideally install Nextcloud with your own domain – the server then gets a valid HTTPS certificate and the official clients connect without a certificate warning.
How is this different from managed Nextcloud?
With a root server the whole server is yours: you have root access and take care of updates and backups yourself. If you would rather not deal with any of that, our managed Nextcloud offer is the better fit.
Does Nextcloud cost extra?
No. Nextcloud is open source; the self-hosted version has no per-user licence costs. You only pay for the root server package.
