Why Homebox on Your Own Server?

A list of your valuables with receipts is exactly the kind of data you don’t want to leave with a third-party service. Homebox is very frugal and runs on the smallest package.

With Homebox you record items with photo, purchase price, serial number and warranty date and assign them to locations such as “Basement” or “Workshop – shelf 2”. You attach receipts and manuals directly, and labels with QR codes take you straight to the right entry at the shelf. During the install the panel creates your account with your e-mail address and a generated password and then switches registration off, so no stranger can create an account. If you like, Homebox runs on your domain with HTTPS. As root you can briefly reopen registration in the configuration whenever others in your household need an account.

What is Homebox for?
For your home, workshop or hobby room: you know what you own, where it is and when warranties expire. That also gives you a list with receipts for your home contents insurance.
Can several people maintain the inventory?
Yes. Open registration is switched off after the install; as root you briefly reopen it in the configuration so housemates can create an account and join your group.
Is there an app?
Homebox runs in the browser and is designed for phones, so you can photograph items directly with the camera. With your own domain this runs over HTTPS.
How do I back up my data?
With the server backups in the panel. You can also export your inventory from Homebox as CSV.
