In Detail

Why draw.io on Your Own Server?

The editor is served from your server rather than a third-party website, and you save your diagrams on your own device. No account or licence required – draw.io is open source.

draw.io is an open-source diagram editor for flowcharts, org charts, network diagrams, UML, ER diagrams and mind maps, with extensive shape libraries. The application runs entirely in the browser: your server only delivers the editor, and you save diagrams as files on your device or in the browser – nothing is stored on the server. You can export to PNG, SVG and PDF, among other formats. Since no data is stored, there is no login; anyone who knows the address can open the editor. The panel installs draw.io and, if you like, sets up your domain with HTTPS, also later on. Even a small package with 512 MB of RAM is enough.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions

Where are my diagrams stored?
On your device or in your browser’s storage. The server only delivers the editor and stores no diagrams – so remember to back up important files yourself.
Do I need an account?
No, draw.io has no login. Anyone who knows the address can use the editor; since the server stores nothing, nobody gets to see your diagrams that way.
Can I open existing .drawio files?
Yes. Files from diagrams.net or the draw.io desktop app open directly in the editor. Likewise you can export diagrams as PNG, SVG, PDF or XML.
How much power does draw.io need?
Very little, because the drawing happens in the browser. The app requires 512 MB of RAM and 5 GB of storage, so a small package will do.
