Why Baserow on Your Own Server?

With Baserow on your own server, your records live in Frankfurt rather than with a SaaS provider. The core edition is open source, and you decide yourself who gets an account.

Baserow combines the feel of a spreadsheet with a real database: fields have types such as date, single select, file or link, and tables can be connected to each other. Besides the grid view there are gallery and form views, plus a REST API and webhooks; some extras such as additional views belong to Baserow’s paid plans. The panel installs Baserow, creates your account with your e-mail address and a generated password as the first account – and therefore the instance admin – and then closes sign-ups. With a domain Baserow runs on HTTPS, without one via the IP address; you can add the domain later in the panel. Because Baserow bundles its database and background services in one package, it needs at least 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of storage. That is also why the installation takes a few minutes longer than for lightweight apps.

Answers to the most important questions

How do I invite more people?
Open sign-ups are switched off after the installation. As admin you invite people to your workspace; for the invitation e-mails to arrive, add SMTP credentials to the configuration.
How does Baserow differ from NocoDB?
Both offer tables with views and an API. Baserow brings its own database and needs more resources for it, while NocoDB is leaner and starts with 1 GB of RAM.
Can I import existing tables?
Yes. Baserow imports CSV, Excel, JSON and XML files among others and can take over data from Airtable.
How do I back up my data?
With the server backups in the panel. In addition, you can export individual tables as CSV or save entire workspaces as a file.
