In Detail

Why SFTPGo on Your Own Server?

Your files live on your server in Frankfurt and you decide who can access what. Instead of paying per user, you create as many accounts as you need – SFTPGo is open source.

SFTPGo is an open-source file server that combines SFTP with a web interface for administration and file access. In the admin interface at /web/admin you create users, give them their own directories and quotas, and restrict permissions per folder. Your users connect with an SFTP client such as FileZilla or WinSCP on port 2022, or upload and download files directly in the browser via the web client. The panel installs SFTPGo and creates your admin account with the username from the order form and a generated password – there is no open setup page. User accounts only exist once you create them as admin. If you like, the panel sets up your domain with HTTPS for the web interface, also later on. SFTPGo is lightweight: 256 MB of RAM is enough, storage depends on your files.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions

How do I connect via SFTP?
With any SFTP client, such as FileZilla, WinSCP or the “sftp” command. Enter your server’s IP or domain as host, 2022 as port, plus the username and password of the account you created in SFTPGo.
Can users sign up on their own?
No. You create accounts as admin in the interface at /web/admin. That is also where you set each user’s directory, quota and permissions.
Is there browser access as well?
Yes. Besides SFTP, SFTPGo offers a web client where your users upload and download files and create share links. With a domain it runs over HTTPS.
How do I back up the files?
Files and settings live in Docker volumes on your server. Back them up with the server backups in the panel; as root you can also set up your own backups to another destination.
