In Detail

Why Project Zomboid on Your Own Server?

A Zomboid world thrives on long runs. On your own server it persists even when the host is offline, and you decide mods, rules and player count yourself.

The panel installs the Project Zomboid dedicated server, which downloads its server software via SteamCMD on first start. You choose the admin username in the install form and the panel generates the password; the same password also serves as the server password for your fellow players. The server gets 4 GB of RAM for Java, and you choose the player count during the install. In the game you join via “Join” with the IP and port 16261; the game uses ports 16261 and 16262 (UDP). Mods from the Steam Workshop and rules such as zombie population or loot are entered in the server configuration via SSH. There is no domain, and every player needs Project Zomboid themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions

Can I use mods?
Yes. You enter Workshop IDs and mod names in the server configuration via SSH; the server loads the mods on its next start. Players receive them when they join.
Why are the server and admin password the same?
That way you only have one password from the panel after the install. You can set a separate server password for players in the server configuration afterwards.
How much RAM does the server need?
At least 4 GB, which the server uses for Java. With many players, large bases or lots of mods, a larger package is the better choice.
Do my friends need the game?
Yes, every player needs their own copy of Project Zomboid. The server downloads its server software via SteamCMD.
