In Detail

Why Core Keeper on Your Own Server?

Your world no longer has to wait for the host to come online. The server is frugal, gets by with 2 GB of RAM, and anyone in the group can jump in when they have time.

The panel installs the Core Keeper dedicated server with the world name and player count from the install form. On first start it downloads the server software via SteamCMD and creates the world. Instead of IP and port, players connect through the Steam network: the server prints a game ID that appears in the app’s log. In the game you choose “Join” and enter that ID – no port forwarding, domain or login needed. Since the game ID grants access, only share it with your fellow players. World and save live in their own volume and survive an app update. Every player needs Core Keeper themselves.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions

Where do I find the game ID?
After starting, the server writes the game ID to the app’s log. You enter that ID in the game under “Join”.
Do I need to open ports?
No. Core Keeper connects players through the Steam network using the game ID, so no port forwarding is needed.
Is the server password-protected?
Access is controlled by the game ID: whoever knows it can join. So only share it with people you want to play with.
Do my friends need the game?
Yes, every player needs their own copy of Core Keeper. The server downloads its server software via SteamCMD on start.
