In Detail

Why Grafana on Your Own Server?

Your metrics and dashboards stay on your server, with no billing by users or data points. Grafana is lightweight and runs even on the smallest package.

Grafana visualises data from many sources: Prometheus, InfluxDB, Loki, MySQL, PostgreSQL and many more via plugins. You build dashboards with a few clicks, share them with your team and get alerted by e-mail, Slack, Telegram or webhook when a value crosses a threshold. The panel installs Grafana, creates your admin user and, with a domain, sets up an HTTPS certificate. You bring a suitable data source or install one alongside – InfluxDB is available as a one-click app too. Over a private network between your servers you collect metrics without exposing them publicly.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers to the most important questions

Where does Grafana get its data from?
From data sources such as Prometheus, InfluxDB, Loki, MySQL or PostgreSQL. You can install InfluxDB with one click in the panel as well; other sources you connect via their address.
Can I monitor other servers?
Yes. An exporter or agent runs on the servers you want to monitor and delivers metrics to your data source. Over a private network between your root servers this traffic stays internal.
How am I notified about problems?
Via Grafana Alerting: you create rules for your metrics and choose contact points such as e-mail, Slack, Telegram, Microsoft Teams or a webhook.
Does Grafana cost anything?
The open-source version of Grafana is free. You only pay for the root server package.
