In Detail
Why Your Own Git Server?
Your code lives on your server instead of on someone else’s platform. Forgejo and Gitea have no per-user licence, are lightweight and run smoothly even on the smallest package.
Forgejo and Gitea are lean, self-hosted Git platforms with a web interface: repositories, issues, pull requests with code review, wiki, releases and organisations for teams. Forgejo is a community-run fork of Gitea; both feel very similar, and you pick one of them in the panel. The install creates your admin account, the web installer is skipped and open registration is switched off – as admin you create users yourself. Git over SSH runs on port 2222, over HTTPS with your domain, for which the panel sets up a Let’s Encrypt certificate if you like. For CI pipelines both support Actions workflows; for that you set up a runner, for example on the same or a second server.
