Why OpenClaw on Your Own Server?

An assistant that can run commands does not belong on your work machine. A server of its own keeps it apart from your other data, has no sleep mode and stays under your control alone.

OpenClaw (formerly Clawdbot or Moltbot) is a personal AI assistant that does tasks for you through messengers. The panel installs the gateway in a container and requires your own domain with HTTPS for it; without a domain OpenClaw cannot be installed here. The gateway is reachable only through that domain and protected by a token, which the panel shows as the password. You approve the first browser over SSH, and you also set up your AI provider and chat channels over SSH. Note: the agent can run commands on the server, change files and send messages. You are responsible for everything it does. The app requires at least 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of storage.

Answers to the most important questions

Do I need my own domain?
Yes, it is mandatory. OpenClaw is reachable only over HTTPS through your domain, the gateway’s port is never opened publicly. Create an A record pointing to your server’s IP address before installing.
How is access protected, and what should I watch out for?
Access is protected by a token and reachable only over HTTPS. The agent can, however, run commands on the server, change files and send messages. Do not share the token, connect only chats you trust, and ideally use a server without other important data.
Who is responsible for what the agent does?
You are. The agent acts on your behalf on your server; responsibility for its actions and for the use of the connected channels rests with you.
What do I have to set up myself after installation?
You approve the first browser over SSH, and you enter your AI provider’s key and chat channels such as Telegram over SSH as well. You pay the AI provider’s costs yourself.
