Why Hermes Agent on Your Own Server?

An agent does not need a laptop left switched on: it stays active as long as its server is running. On your own server you control configuration and data, and billing at the AI provider stays with your own account.

Hermes Agent is a self-learning AI agent by Nous Research. The panel starts it in a container and enables the OpenAI-compatible API under /v1. It is protected by an API key, which the panel shows as the password; you use it as a bearer token. The API is reachable only through your domain with HTTPS or locally through an SSH tunnel, not through an open port. You then set up your AI provider’s key and channels such as Telegram or Discord yourself over SSH with the hermes setup command. The agent runs commands inside its container, which is your responsibility. The app requires at least 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of storage.

Answers to the most important questions

How do I call the API?
The API is OpenAI-compatible and lives at https://your-domain/v1. Use the password shown in the panel as the bearer token. Without a domain you can only reach it locally through an SSH tunnel to 127.0.0.1:8642.
Do I need my own AI key?
Yes. Hermes Agent does not ship a language model. After installation you enter your AI provider’s key and the credentials for chat channels over SSH; you pay the provider’s costs yourself.
Can the agent run commands?
Yes, it runs commands inside its container. Do not share the API key, connect only chats you trust, and do not use the server for other important data. You are responsible for what the agent does.
How much power does Hermes Agent need?
The app requires at least 2 GB of RAM and 10 GB of storage. The language model runs at the AI provider, so the server itself usually does not have to compute models. For browser tools, more memory makes sense.
