Why LobeChat on Your Own Server?

LobeChat is lightweight: 1 GB of RAM is enough because the models run at the providers. You use your own API keys, pay for the models by usage and protect access with your own code.

LobeChat brings many AI providers together in a tidy interface that also works well on your phone. You create assistants with their own roles, switch between models and use plugins. The panel installs the lightweight edition of LobeChat without its own database: your browser stores the conversations, while the server delivers the interface and forwards requests to the providers. So that no stranger can use your server and the keys stored on it, the install sets an access code – the generated password from the panel. If you like, the panel sets up your domain with HTTPS, now or later. 1 GB of RAM is enough.

Answers to the most important questions

Where are my chats stored?
In this edition, in the browser of each device, not on the server. When you switch devices, you take your conversations along using export and import in the settings.
What is the access code?
A password that protects your server from use by others. Anyone who does not know it cannot send requests to the models through your server; you find the code in the panel.
Can I use local models with Ollama?
Yes, LobeChat supports Ollama as a provider. The model itself needs much more computing power and memory though, so Ollama is best run on a larger server whose address you enter in LobeChat.
How is it different from LibreChat or Open WebUI?
In this edition LobeChat needs no database and is correspondingly frugal. LibreChat and Open WebUI store chats and accounts on the server and are a better fit when several people should work with their own accounts.
