Website hosting: how much does it cost?
Website hosting is an ongoing cost and shouldn't be underestimated. It's important to know how much it costs to host a website and what options there are. In this blog you'll learn more about hosting a website and the various costs involved.
1. Define your requirements
Storage, bandwidth, email accounts, databases, SSL certificates, domain limits & much more can be limited by hosting providers for their packages. It's therefore important to clearly define your requirements beforehand: for a simple WordPress site, 0.5 - 3 GB of storage space is usually enough to host it. For a very extensive dashboard with a large database, or a site that offers a lot of images, more storage space might be needed. There are also still providers who sell their webspace products with an HDD hard drive. This is not advisable, as it significantly affects website speed.
2. Choose the right hosting package for your website
The webspace packages we offer already start at €1 a month. Our most expensive webspace package is only €5.95 per month. These differ mainly in the storage space available. We'll show you a screenshot of our packages so you can get an impression yourself.
As you can see, compared to our competitors we barely limit you at all. You mainly pay for your storage space, email addresses and databases. If you run a small site, the €1 webspace package is completely sufficient.
3. Which domain extension makes sense for you
We now offer over 35 popular domain extensions, so it's easy to lose track and ask yourself which one makes the most sense for you. The most popular are still the country-specific top-level domains (ccTLD for short) like .de, .com, and .tv. For a primarily German-speaking audience, it makes sense to use the .de domain. That way, the user who later visits your website immediately knows who the site is meant to address. For an American audience, .com is currently the most relevant domain extension, since most websites with this extension support the English language. The counterpart to ccTLDs are the generic top-level domains (gTLD for short), which aren't regional but instead relate to the content of the website. One example is the .tv domain, which officially belongs to Tuvalu but is primarily used by websites that offer a streaming service (similar to TV).
So as you can see, the cost depends heavily on your requirements and your wishes for your website. As a general rule, though, it's possible to run a website with us for as little as €16 a year. With more specific requirements and 100 GB of storage, the costs can rise to €80 a year.
